REGGIE Kray’s 18 carat gold wristwatch is the star attraction at an auction of Kray twins’ items at Barnton next week.

The Omega watch with a diamond bezel has an estimate of more than £10,000, and features at the sale at Northwich Auction in Runcorn Road on Wednesday, October 14.

The estimate is more than double the value the watch would have been expected to fetch because of its link with the Krays, and it features in Legend, a new film about the Kray twins.

Tom Hardy plays Reggie and Ronnie in the film, during which he wears the watch, which is due to go under the hammer next week along with a photograph of Tom wearing the watch.

About 50 lots linked to the Kray twins are to be auctioned, including Ronnie’s denture mouldings, which have an estimate of between £800 and £1,200.

Also on sale will be a rare signed copy of Thoughts, a collection of poems by Reggie, a picture of the twins signed by Reggie and a rare oil painting by Ronnie.

There will also be a large quantity of handwritten prison letters from Reggie from about 1964 and the Thames Valley Police coroner’s report for Ronnie.

The items have come from a family friend of Reggie and a collector, and are to be sold by auctioneer Peter Critchley.

“This is a chance to own a little piece of history,” said Peter.

“The Krays were very much part of the most exciting decade of the 20th century, and we were very pleased to get the watch for the auction.

“The estimate on the watch would have probably been about £4,000 had it not been for its link with the Krays, and it did no harm to its estimate having been worn by Tom Hardy in the new film about the Krays.”

The auction starts at 10am, and the watch could go under the hammer at about midday.

A catalogue of items will be available to see on the-saleroom.com from Friday, and there will be viewing days at Northwich Auction on Sunday from 10am to 2pm and next Tuesday from 10am to 5pm.
