A MOTHER has been inspired to shave her head for charity after seeing her brave six-year-old son lose his own hair during his fight against cancer.

Michelle Prescott’s world was turned upside on August 5 when her eldest boy Alex was diagnosed with Pre B Lymphoblastic Lymphoma.

Since then, the courageous boy has undergone extensive treatment to help him beat the tumour.

But while the treatment is going well, mum Michelle and dad James were devastated to see Alex lose his hair.

“We shaved Alex’s hair off as it was all falling out. He cried and screamed through all of it,” said 29-year-old Michelle, who is also mum to one-year-old Leo and 10-month-old James.

Last month Alex return to school, with fellow pupils noticing his change in appearance.

Michelle said: “I know children are going to say things to him and it can’t be helped as kids say whatever is on their little minds.

“Alex told me he wasn’t bothered by what the child said but I know it has done and he has told me what was said so I’ve decided, if my son is going through it then so am I.

“Although I don’t feel the pain Alex endures from day to day, I can support him by shaving my hair off too.”

Michelle will say farewell to her long locks during a fundraiser at Our Lady’s Social Club in Parr.

Money raised will go to children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent.

“They say each day, 10 children are diagnosed with cancer. That day my son was one of them,” said Michelle.

“It has been a very emotional rollercoaster for Alex and our family throughout his illness but supporting us in our time of need was CLIC Sargent.

“Without their help and support, we would have found it difficult. They brought the light back into Alex’s eyes and provided many toys and tools for distraction from his pain and discomfort.

“They also gave us a listening and sympathetic ear to us too. Being around other families affected by childhood cancers, it is clear to see how fantastic they really are.”

The fundraiser will run from 1pm until 6pm at Our Lady’s Social Club in Parr on Saturday, October 24 and as well as Michelle’s head shave, will also feature a number of raffles.
