A PAIR of Warrington motor racing enthusiasts head to Norfolk this weekend for the F1 Stockcar World Championships final.

It gives the amateur duo a chance to realise a dream of racing against some of the world's finest.

James Morris, from Penketh, will drive the purpose-built, single-seater race car with a Chevrolet engine, and will be accompanied at the event by teammate Matt Taylor, from Grappenhall.

"It’s a dream to be honest, " said 30-year-old Taylor. "We go to it every year to watch so to be a part of it will be beyond our dreams!

"It’s just a hobby, so it feels good to have qualified as most of the teams will be full time.

"If we got in the top 10 it would be incredible, if not we have been there and done it and it’ll probably never happen again – it'll be great just to be part of it and to enjoy it."

The pair saw off competition from more than 500 rivals to seal a qualifying spot for the weekend's showpiece.

A total of 36 cars from around the globe will line up at Kings Lynn's Norfolk Arena on Saturday.

"We’ve been doing it for 20 years," added NSPCC worker Taylor.

"But this is the first time we've qualified.

"We race every weekend, then go to the garage two nights a week to work on the car and fix the damage. Then we have a big truck to put the car in.

"My dad did it in the 70s and James’ brother was involved, so it’s following in the family line really."
