A DAVENHAM club celebrated its new entry in a prestigious publication by hosting its launch.

The 2016 Good Beer Guide was revealed at Davenham Cricket Club, which is listed within it for the first time.

The guide features 4,500 of the best pubs and clubs around the UK and features two cricket clubs from Northwich.

Barnton Cricket Club has been featured in the guide for more than 10 years and was named National Club of the year in 2014.

Davenham is included this year as it serves three cask beers, specialising in beers from local breweries, and holds an annual beer festival in spring.

Nick Bosley, chairman of CAMRA North Cheshire, said: "With over 200 pubs and clubs in north Cheshire vying to be the best it is a great achievement that these two clubs made it through to the 17 that succeeded in making the guide."

Bob Floyd, chairman of Davenham Cricket Club, said: "We are delighted that our efforts to introduce quality and good value real ale have been recognised.

"e have had many excellent beers and will continue in the same vein moving forward.

"Ian Bentley deserves great credit for the clubs achievements."

The Lion, in Moulton, has also returned to the guide after winning the title of North Cheshire Pub of the Year 2015.

Andy Jones and Delores Fallon, who run the pub, said: "We are at the heart of our community and are delighted to be in the 2016 Guide.

"The Lion is very much work in progress but this recognition shows we are going in the right direction."
