KEN Goodier was the speaker at the recent Northwich Probus Club meeting, with his talk entitled "An Interesting Life".

Ken, who was born in 1926, was a founder member of Weaver Probus club and has been a local Northwich boy all his life.

After attending Sir John Deane’s school, his first job was in the laboratories at ICI where he was involved in the research that led to the discovery of polythene.

He volunteered for the army in 1944 and due to his mathematical abilities was involved with the Royal Corps of Signals breaking code, and eventually received official recognition of the work done at Bletchley Park.

He returned to ICI after the war and was sent to Khewra in Pakistan for three years to the area very close to where Osama Bin Laden was captured.

Members enjoyed a visit to the Railway Heritage Centre at Crewe and are looking forward to walking in the Bickerton area.

The bowling section are holding the McGuinness trophy at the Spinner and Bergamot, Comberbach.

Meetings are on alternate Monday mornings at Hartford Golf Club.
