SHAUN Reid’s Warrington Town intend on making Cantilever Park a fortress this season after recording their first home win on Tuesday.

The Yellows followed up a 2-2 draw at title favourites Bamber Bridge on Saturday with a 2-0 success against Radcliffe Borough.

They host Farsley Celtic on Saturday, kick off 3pm, when Reid expects Town to extend an unbeaten start to their First Division North campaign.

“We want to make it a fortress and a tough place to come here and play,” said the Town manager.

“That’s what you have to do to win championships and be successful.

“We’re looking to win our home games and make it a place people don’t want to visit.”

However the Yellows will not be underestimating the visitors, who have suffered back-to-back losses.

“My players have given everything in these first two games, but we are not going to get carried away by that when we are a week into the season,” added Reid.

“We’ve got a tough game coming up and we’ll be organised and prepared to do a job.

“They (Farsley) have not had a great start, but they’ve got a decent squad and it can take four or five games sometimes for players to settle in.”

Town fought back from two goals down on Saturday, both scored by ex-Premier League striker Brett Ormerod, with late Scott Metcalfe and Ciaran Kilheeney efforts.

An own goal and Nathan Burke finish proved enough on Tuesday, although Reid was disappointed his side did not kill off the game earlier.

“To win this league we have got to be bang on every game and on Tuesday we didn’t take our chances,” he explained.

“What we have also got to do is take points off the top sides, and we did that straight away.”

The opener came three minutes in when Metcalfe’s cross was diverted into the net by Aaron Walters.

Burke had chances to increase the lead before Town stopper Karl Wills was forced to save Richard Smith’s effort from the spot after Boro won a penalty.

The Town midfielder could have had a hat-trick had it not been for several saves from Radcliffe keeper Chris Cheetham.

But the hosts did make sure of the points 10 minutes from time when Burke collected a wayward Metcalfe shot and curled left-footed into the corner.

And a satisfied Reid is confident the Yellows’ strong finish to both of their opening encounters is a result of a productive pre-season.

“My players have settled in OK and we went unbeaten in pre-season. But we hadn’t kept a clean sheet which was worrying, so I was happy with that on Tuesday.

“One pleasing thing is in the last 15 minutes of both games we have been very strong and kept going.”

After hosting Farsley on Saturday, Warrington will travel to Burscough in the league on Tuesday, kick off 7.45pm.
