A MASQUERADE ball has been inspired by a toddler battling a lifelong condition.

The Kelso family are no novices when it comes to fundraising, having organised events to help their 10-year-old son Cieran, who lost both his legs and a number of fingers when he contracted Meningococcal Septicaemia as a baby.

But this time parents Gemma and Gary are fundraising for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust as Cieran's little brother Gabriel, two, was diagnosed with the disease when he was two weeks old.

Gemma said: "At the time it broke our hearts as the average life expectancy is currently 41 years, however as time has gone on we have grown to live with the condition and face every day and its challenges head on.

"Gabriel is now two and a very happy little boy who has tons of energy.

"He has daily physio and lots of medication, but he just gets on with it like its the norm.

"We don't know what his future holds, but with all the research and work the Cystic Fibrosis Trust carry out, the outlook of those diagnosed now looks brighter everyday."

The masquerade ball, sponsored by the Golden Egg Group, takes place at Nunsmere Hall Hotel on October 2.

The evening will include a three-course dinner, drinks and dancing from 7pm with entertainment, a live band, a raffle and musical numbers from Knutsford Musical Theatre Company.

Gemma and Gary held a fundraising ball for Cieran in 2012.

"Cieran's ball was amazing and we raised just over £3,000," Gemma said.

"We are hoping to raise lots more this year for Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

"We haven't done anything major in the way of fundraising since getting Gabriel's diagnosis so hopefully this will be the start of many more events.

"The ball was so much fun and a happy event for people to be involved in, it made sense to repeat it."
