FAMILIES flocked to a town centre park to enjoy a day that has become a firm fixture in Northwich's calendar.

Northwich Community Fun Day has been heralded a great success by organisers after the third annual event on Saturday.

Northwich Guardian:

"The day was ram-packed with lots of visitors and lots of returning visitors that come each year," said Lesley Moore, from Northwich Town Council.

"We had lots of really positive comments from visitors saying how much they enjoyed it, how much the children enjoyed it and how there was lots to do."

Northwich Guardian:

Attractions included tractor and trailer rides, donkey rides, a fun fair, craft tent, gingerbread decorating, stocks and sponges, fire breathers, stilt walkers, acrobats, animals from Stockley Farm fitness demonstrations at the outdoor gym and charity, craft and exhibition stands, as well as a barbecue, ice cream and stone baked pizzas.

Lesley said: "My mum said she heard someone say 'I come every year and this year's got to be the best, it gets better every year'.

Northwich Guardian:

"There was another lady setting up on one of the benches near the play area, she put a little table cloth out and explained that her little girl was two the day before so they were having a little tea party there so they could enjoy everything going on."

She said the barbecue was among a number of stalls and raffles that started packing up by mid afternoon – because they had sold out.

Northwich Guardian:

"They didn't pack up because of the rain but because they had shifted the stuff they had to sell or raffle," Lesley said.

"Up to about 1pm we didn't really have a shower, from 1pm we did but it didn't put anyone off – us Northwich folk, we don't let the weather stop us."

Northwich Guardian:

The town council, which organised the event, also raised more than £100 for the mayors charity, Phoenix Domestic Abuse and Support Services, through donations on the tractor rides.

Lesley said: "The fun day is something we always look forward to each year – just to see the children having fun and it doesn't cost the parents anything.

"Roll on next year."
