SALEM top the bill in a line-up of quality classic rock acts heading for Northwich at the end of August.

The Hull-based band are the headliners for Rockwich, which is being staged at Lostock Sports and Social Club on Sunday, August 30.

Mik Matzen has signed up 15 bands for the 12-hour festival, which follows hard on the heels of last weekend’s Lostock Musical Festival at the same venue, which was also masterminded by Mik.

“The festival was a huge success, with a turnout of between 350 and 400 people, three times the number we had last year,” said Mik, from Leftwich.

“People came from all over, including Birmingham, Lancashire and Derbyshire, and we got some fantastic feedback from the whole event from punters and musicians alike.

“People praised the quality of the bands, and everyone had a fantastic time.”

The festival raised £528 for the Teenage Cancer Trust from donations, including donations for 250 specially-created CDs featuring a track from each of the 25 bands who were performing over the two days.

“Last week’s festival was more on the heavy metal side, whereas Rockwick will be more classic and melodic rock, for a slightly older audience,” said Mik.

“Salem are a well-established band, and everyone appearing is very good quality and has been hand-picked.”

The festival opens at midday with Crewe band Hybrid 9, with Salem taking to the stage for the climax of the evening, which is due to end at about midnight.

The line-up also features Bad Touch, Theia, Lyxx, Big Foot, Chasing Dragons, 12 Gauge, Avenger, New Device, Defy All Reason, Texas Flood, Spiral Dive, Circle of Reason and Falling Red.

Tickets cost £10, and are available only in advance from www.rockwich.net.

Mik will be in plaster for six weeks after breaking his right arm on the Saturday night of last weekend’s festival when he fell off stage after tripping over a cable.

However he returned a few hours later after having a temporary cast applied at hospital.

Mik has set up a Facebook group called Lostock Music Festival, which features numerous photographs from the festival.
