A COMMUNITY has set out its hopes for a hall in its village.

Groups and organisations met with Davenham Parish Council to discuss what facilities they would like and what could be done to provide them.

The meeting was organised by the parish council as a fact-finding exercise following proposals by 1st Davenham Scouts to use part of council-owned Butchers Stile field to build a hall with a badminton court, changing rooms for the football club and parking for 50 cars.

Cllr Katie Mattinson, parish council chairman, said: "Everyone agreed that we need a community space – a community hall or play space, whatever it is we need some kind of community building."

The wish list includes changing rooms, a large hall and outside space.

"We can't wave a magic wand and get a building straightaway, especially something that's got to be suitable for everyone's needs, but we will look at everyone's comments to see what can be done," Cllr Mattinson said.

"We will look at Butchers Stile and look around the village to see if there's any other options."

The council aims to investigate where a hall could be built and what funding would be available, but emphasised it had to focus on the Davenham neighbourhood plan first.

"At the moment our priority has to be the neighbourhood plan and getting it our there so we will concentrate on that," Cllr Mattinson said.

"We are all volunteers and have a finite amount of time."

She added: "But although we're concentrating on the neighbourhood plan don't think we're not continuing to look at this – we are continuing to look at this and all the options."
