A SANDIWAY fine wine merchant has picked up a prestigious award - and has announced it is planning to expand.

Define owner Jon Campbell was presented with the much-coveted prize at the national wine trade’s major annual event, The International Wine Challenge Awards in London on Thursday July 16.

The judging panel assessed both the quality and value of the wine range at Define, which includes more than 1,500 wines, to suit all budgets.

The overall customer experience was also judged, aided by feedback from mystery shoppers.

Jon, who founded the company in 2000, sources directly from vineyards or through specialist importers to offer a cutting-edge range of characterful wines, alongside an eclectic mix of spirits and real ales.

“We’re delighted to win this prestigious award - a welcome pat on the back as we celebrate 15 years of hard graft and commitment," he told the Guardian.

"We taste thousands of wines every year to make sure our wines are best in class. We’re grateful to the judges for recognizing our efforts and rewarding our approach in selling quality wine without taking ourselves too seriously.”

Define has long been renowned for the highly qualified, passionate staff on hand to advise customers, and with the added help of their recently installed sampling machines, customers can taste through a range of 32 regularly changed wines to help them discover new wine styles and choose their perfect bottle.

Complimentary cheese, olives and charcuterie from the deli section of the store are often served alongside.

Jon added the company was not resting on its laurels and is working on new plans to expand the business by knocking through to the area that previously served as a Post Office.

To celebrate the award, there will be a special ‘open day’ at the Chester Road shop on Saturday, August 8, between 12pm and 6pm.

Customers are invited to sample a selection of Define’s latest and greatest finds free of charge.
