A TALENTED teenager from Davenham is holding a release party to launch her first EP.

Katy Galloway is holding the event to celebrate the launch of her debut CD 'Games' on Monday, July 20, with half the proceeds from the night going to Northwich children's charity The Joshua Tree.

The 16-year-old, from Mere Bank, said: "I started to play the guitar and started songwriting at about 14 and it escalated from there.

"I had a friend who made an EP and I thought 'why not, I might as well do it'.

"I'm very excited – it's a nice way to publish songs and get them out there."

The release party takes place at Davenham Players Theatre, in Church Street, and will include live music from Katy, Aaron Hancox and Josh Whittaker.

The EP contains four songs, which have all passed muster with Katy's friends.

"They're all the songs I wrote early on when I was 14 or 15," she said.

"There were songs I had written that I thought were better and I wanted them on initially but I asked my friends and all of them said these four songs.

"I thought if people like those songs then they're the songs I should be putting on the EP."

Katy, a country music fan, chose to support The Joshua Tree to help the charity in its #DigDeep appeal to raise £250,000 by May next year.

This will allow the charity to start building a support centre to help children with life threatening illnesses and their families.

"I just thought it was a lovely thing to do," she said.

"The EP and launch party aren't about making lots of money for me – it's about me saying 'I've made an EP, I'm excited'.

"I wasn't expecting the CDs when they arrived – I literally opened the box and squealed."

Doors open at 7.30pm.
