NORTHWICH will hold its first Teenage Market on Saturday and give young entrepreneurs chance to shine.

The market will run in the town centre from 10am to 4pm, with creative youngsters running stalls to sell their wares and also entertaining shoppers.

Northwich student Melissa Stockton, 18, will sell her 'Treasures of Wonderland' bespoke jewellery at the event.

In the run up to it she has been mentored by Gaynor Sinar, who runs Curtain Magic and founded Northwich Independent Retailers Association.

Melissa said: "Gaynor has taught me so much about profits, numbers and percentages and she has been my rock throughout this entire experience.

"As a young person it’s nice to have such an admirable and experienced role model."

The Teenage Market was created by teenage brothers Tom and Joe Barratt as a way to revitalise the market area in their hometown of Stockport and give young people a free platform to trade and perform.

Having received wide acclaim and endorsement from celebrities such as Mary Portas, The Teenage Market has now been rolled out across the UK.

It is being delivered in Northwich in partnership with The Market Company, which runs the town's monthly Artisan Market.

Jane Hough, manager of Northwich Business Improvement District (BID), said: "The Teenage Market is a first for Northwich and it’s tremendous to see such interest and passion from local youngsters.

"We’re working hard to show that Northwich town centre has something for everyone and to attract new people into the town.

"The Teenage Market is the latest initiative to support that end and we’re expecting a great turnout."
