STAFF from Tata Chemicals Europe in Northwich climbed three mountains in 24 hours to raise more than £10,000 for charities including Winsford’s St Luke’s Hospice.

The team of 20 reached the summit of Ben Nevis in Scotland, then Scafell Pike in England before ascending Snowdon in Wales.

Setting off from Tata Chemicals Europe HQ in Winnington Avenue on Friday, June 19, the team drove a total of 903 miles and climbed a total of 3,407 metres on foot before returning the next day.

Half of the money raised went to St Luke’s, while half was raised for Muscular Dystrophy UK – a charity which is close to Tata employee David Healey’s heart as his son Dillon was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in 2010.

Phil Davies, general manager of business services at Tata Chemicals Europe, said: “It was a fantastic effort from a very determined team.

"It is that same dogged determination that has seen the company emerge from a difficult few years. With a bright future now ahead of us, we want to give something back to our local communities, and fundraising and volunteering are a central part of what we are about.

"It’s very important to us that we are able to help invaluable local charities such as St Luke’s, and to support charities that have had a huge direct impact on people within our company, like Muscular Dystrophy UK.

“I’m very impressed by our climbers and would like to thank everyone who donated – the generosity we have seen is incredible. We never expected to raise as much as we have done, and the donations are still coming in. The real test will be topping this success with our next challenge!”

A spokesman for St Luke’s hospice said: “We would just like to thank all the team at Tata Chemicals. The Three Peaks Challenge alone is tough, but to raise such a huge amount for two fantastic causes is incredible and we can't thank them enough.”
