A DANISH renewable energy firm is set to submit plans for a new plant in Lostock.

Dong Energy wants to create a bioresource facility on part of the Lostock Works site – which the Guardian understands would replace the one proposed by Viridor.

The facility, named 'REnescience Northwich', would 'recover resources from waste' and generate electricity through 'treatment with enzymes, mechanical sorting and anaerobic digestion'.

The firm, which turned over £6.4billion in 2014, stressed to the Guardian that the facility would not involve incineration, like the proposed EON/Tata plant on a separate part of the Lostock site.

A spokesman for Dong said: "The proposed facility would be built on the site formerly the subject of a planning application by Viridor and would replace that proposal.

"The plant will produce biogas and generate approximately 5MW of renewable electricity in addition to the materials for recycling."

The Guardian understands Viridor has run out of time to build its proposed plant, leaving the door open for Dong to move in.

But neighbouring Tata told the Guardian that the proposal submitted by Dong would not affect its own plant in Lostock.

Phil Davies, general manager business services at Tata Chemicals, said: “This application is by a third party at a site at Lostock which is not owned by Tata Chemicals Europe.

"We have no involvement in this project, and it does not affect our plans for the Sustainable Energy Plant, which we still intend to build in accordance with the planning consent granted to us by the Secretary of State in October 2012.”

Dong Energy is to run two exhibitions detailing the plans.

The first one at the community centre in Lostock Gralam on Thursday, July 9 between 2pm and 6.45pm, with the second one at Lostock Sports and Social Club on Saturday, July 11 between 10am and 4pm.

Forms will be available at the exhibitions so residents can give feedback or they can email northwich@dongenergy.co..uk or write to PO Box Saltash, PL12 9AQ. The closing date for comments is August 16.
