TENS of thousands of visitors will enjoy the best that Cheshire has to offer in a two-day spectacular this week.

The Cheshire County Show starts on Tuesday and continues on Wednesday, with a huge range of attractions, from livestock competitions and agricultural demonstrations to breathtaking motorcycle stunt shows and to WI crafts and flower arranging.

The annual event takes place at Tabley Showground from 8am to 6pm each day.

Tony Garnett, show chairman, said education was at the heart of the show.

"The show has a long history and it's really about education and everybody having a nice time," he said.

"Originally the show started off as a display of better practices of agriculture.

"We're still doing that but it's a much wider educational exercise now and we engage more with the general public.

"That forms a big part of getting our message across from a farming point of view to the general public.

"We want to give people a better understanding of the countryside and where their food comes from."

Tony, a farmer from Allostock, has been involved in the Cheshire County Show for more than 30 years.

This week's show is his eighth as chairman but he said it only happens because of an enormous team effort each year.

"There are a huge number of helpers and a lot of good will within the agricultural society and beyond to make sure everything goes alright.

"It's everyone's effort that makes the show work.

"There's something like 300 to 400 stewards but a lot more people involved than that, it's quite a considerable number."

This year's event is also the show's 25th anniversary at Tabley Showground, in Flittogate Lane.

Before this it was held at Tatton Park.
