THOUSANDS of visitors flocked to Northwich to enjoy a summer extravaganza across the town centre.

A host of family entertainment and live music coincided with the monthly Artisan Market on Saturday to offer a range of attractions for the crowds.

The event was organised by Northwich Business Improvement District (BID).

Jane Hough, Northwich BID manager, said: "It’s all about encouraging people to visit Northwich, be part of the local community and have a great family day out too.

"It's fantastic to see the entire town involved and to encourage visitors and shoppers to take in the whole of the town centre.

"We’ve worked hard to get the right mix of entertainment and think the addition of live music really broadened the appeal."

A petting zoo of meerkats, rabbits and ducks was installed in Weaver Square, complete with arts and crafts marquees in Weaver Square and St Paul's Square and an array of Disney princesses, superheroes, balloon artists, fire-eaters, unicyclists and stiltwakers entertaining passers by.

Live folk and jazz from local musicians filled the air in Brunner Court with Cockney Carol, The Ageless Ukes, Northwich Pop Choir and solo singers all performing, whilst Blozone rocked up a storm in the Quayside and JCB Unplugged, Matt Davies, Matty Awbery and Mike Baddeley were firm favourites with families at the Witton Chimes.

Adam Prestage, landlord of The Witton Chimes, said: "This is the first time we’ve put something on like this during the day and it’s been great fun.

"We had a very busy pub, with families enjoying the entertainment and some great feedback on the local artists too.

"It was a great showcase for Northwich and we’re looking forward to the next one."
