A TEENAGE Warriors of Warrington swimmer hopes to build on her recent performances with Team GB on the road to achieving her ultimate goal of making the Paralympic Games.

Coral Farrell was among 24 Para swimmers, including Ellie Simmonds, representing Britain at the International German Swimming Championships of People with Disabilities.

It was the 13-year-old’s first competition outside of the UK and she stormed to six personal bests at the Europa Sportpark in Berlin.

The Cardinal Newman RC High School student, who trains nine times a week, took fourth in the 400m freestyle and 50m backstroke, and fifth in the 200m freestyle.

Farrell also competed in the 50m, 100m and 800m freestyle, 200m backstroke and 200m individual medley.

The teenager was in action at the British Para-Swimming International Meet in March and will head back to Glasgow on June 25 for the Scottish National Open Swimming Championships.

“I’m really excited,” she said. “I want to get my times down again at the nationals.”

That trip to Scotland will be followed by the ASA Championships Summer Nationals in Sheffield in August.

And Farrell hopes she can continue to improve with her aim being to reach the Games in Japan in 2020.

“I was training with Warrington and got picked up by Team GB, they started asking questions and looking at my times,” she explained.

“Since then Ellie Simmonds and a lot of the Para swimmers have made quite a big impression on me and my aim is to make the Paralympics in 2020, when I’ll be 19.

“I’ll have a bit of a rest after the nationals but then the hard training starts again for next year.”
