A former engineer from Dartford is holding a solo exhibition at a prestigious art gallery in Mayfair later this month.

Dan Lane, 33, shot to fame after having his work featured at his local gallery, What If? in Dartford High Street.

Since then, he has sold a piece to a Russian buyer for £10,000, and on June 25 his debut collection Every Piece of Me - which he is showcasing under the alias Mechanica - will be on display at Castle Fine Art in London.

His work is crafted from an eclectic variety of items and draws upon his experience as an engineer.

At the core of his artwork there are classical inspirations such as the Sistine chapel and Nike, the Greek goddess of victory, but the Fleet Road resident says that the most prominent motif in this exhibition is the relationship between nature and machines.

He said: “I like to show nature and the mechanical world interacting. Different people interpret this in different ways - some see it as one's dominance over the other.

“There's also an emphasis on detail though. I want people to step forward, get closer, look at and digest the art.”

The artist has enjoyed a meteoric rise he was able to quit his job as an engineer and take his art on full-time.

“It's been amazing but crazy,” he said. “I've had people messaging me on Facebook, asking how I did it. To be honest I'm not even sure how I did it.

“I'm now looking ahead to a UK tour, and since I've had interest from Russian and US buyers maybe even something worldwide.”
