STEFAN Ratchford knows how important each of Warrington Wolves’ remaining Super League games will be with the club searching for form and fighting for a play-offs place.

With seven games until the league splits, Wolves sit two points above those bound for the Middle 8s while also being a win away from the top four and the extra home game in the Super 8s phase.

Five of those remaining Super League games come against current top-eight rivals but Ratchford insists Wolves must approach each fixture on a week-by-week basis.

“With the way we have been this year, a bit up and down, we can’t look too far ahead,” said the 26-year-old.

“We’ve got to look at the next game and we’ve definitely got a big test this weekend against a good Catalans side.

“We’ve just got to focus on whatever is coming up each week.

“We can pick some form up. We’re not a million miles off but we’re just not getting the results and it’s the little things it comes down to at this time of the year.

“We’ve got to start picking results up and push for that top four and top eight. It’s really close at the moment so we’ve got to focus on being in there.”

Ratchford was not among the Wolves players who took the opportunity to watch the last few moments of Catalans’ draw with Huddersfield from the St James’ Park stand on Sunday.

However the England international already knows the French outfit will pose a threat at The Halliwell Jones Stadium tomorrow, Friday.

“I didn’t see any of their game,” added Ratchford. “But they’re a strong side and these last few weeks they’ve started hitting a bit of form.

“They’re always a tough side whether it’s home or away, but you’d probably say in recent history they don’t travel as well as they get on at home.

“We know it’s going to be a really tough task and a massive test for us.”

Head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith said a short turnaround can be a positive for Wolves this week, and Ratchford is keen to get out and rectify Sunday’s defeat.

“Sometimes you don’t enjoy the short turnarounds so much,” he explained. “But we’re both in the same boat – they’ve played Sunday, we’ve played Sunday.

“If you don’t pick up any injuries it’s always good to get back out there and try and right some wrongs – it’s one we’ve got to focus on picking up the two points.”

Ratchford has proved one of Wolves’ most consistent performers this campaign and the former Salford man has been pleased with his displays at full back.

“Playing in one position is definitely helping with consistency and I’m still picking things up each week; where to be, what to do,” he added.

“The more you play in one role the more consistent you get and I’m working towards that.”

And despite defeat to St Helens, Ratchford is keen for Magic Weekend to remain on the Super League calendar.

“That was the first time I’ve been there,” said Ratchford on a debut outing at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. “It was a good atmosphere and it was a good day.

“Magic is a really good event and hopefully it will keep growing.

“Hopefully it can get around the country and get to more venues.

“I think it is definitely one of the things that has got to stay in Super League.”
