MUM Gail Healey needs your votes today to help her win a badly-needed makeover for her garden for her son to enjoy.

Gail lives in Barnton, and her 10-year-old son Dillon has Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a progressive muscle-wasting condition with no cure.

Dillon, who attends Hebden Green School, loves being outside, but he needs a ramp to use the back garden as he struggles to use the steps to the garden.

Gail is hoping to install a ramp if she wins a garden competition being run by MyBuilder.com.

The winner will receive £1,000 worth of materials and a MyBuilder landscape gardener to create their dream garden.

Gail’s entry is one of 270 hoping to win the A Grand For Your Garden competition, and people can vote for their favourite entry until midnight tomorrow.

The 12 entries with the most votes will be shortlisted, and MyBuilder will then choose the winner from the shortlist.

“Having a garden makeover would mean we could actually use our garden again,” said Gail, who is the deputy manager at Whitley Pre-School.

“After having a downstairs bedroom/wet room built for Dillon, the builder has left us with three big steps to get into garden.

“Dillon struggles to use them, and the garden is not very accessible for anyone. Dillon would love to play in the garden again with his two sisters, Ella, 14, and Matilda, seven.

“Part of Duchenne muscular dystrophy means he needs lots of sunshine as he is vitamin D deficient, so it would be brilliant to sort the garden out for the summer for him and our family.

“If we win the competition we would hope to put in a ramp and do the garden up, with possibly a seating area and planters.”

Gail’s husband Dave works at Tata Chemicals at Winnington.

"At MyBuilder we help homeowners to find great tradesmen day in, day out, and we’re proud of our success in realising this mission,” said MyBuilder.com CEO and founder Ryan Notz.

“However, there are a lot of homeowners who are in a difficult financial situation and can’t afford to hire a tradesman, even for much-needed repairs.

“Our garden competition will brighten someone’s life by improving what is often the most neglected part of the home."

Voting in the Win A Grand For Your Garden competition closes at midnight tomorrow, Wednesday, and anyone who would like to support Gail’s entry should visit www.mybuilder.com/competitions/garden-makeover/entries/825.
