CHILDREN are invited to join in the fun by creating their own scarecrow for a new village competition.

The contest is being held in Barnton, and the theme is a film or book character.

The competition is open to all Barnton residents, organisations, clubs, churches and shops, and is being organised by Barnton Community Group.

Members of the public will be able to vote for their favourite scarecrow, and the prizes will be presented in July.

Entry forms are available from the post office and charity shop in Runcorn Road, the newspaper shop in Lydyett Lane and Barnton Library in Townfield Lane, and the closing date for entries is Friday, May 29.

Entering the competition costs £2, and scarecrow trail maps/voting forms cost £1, which are available from Friday, June 5.

Entry and voting forms should be submitted to Barnton Community Primary School or Barnton Library.

Scarecrows must be in place for viewing from Saturday, June 13, must be erected in front gardens or windows, and should be easily visible from the footpath or road.

Money raised by the competition will go to village green project funds, and for more details contact Barnton Library or visit www.barntonvillage.org.uk.
