WHAT'S a better way to bring the community together than with a beer festival.

Those were the thoughts of eight Cookley residents as they put together the village's first beer festival which will be hitting the Sports Club next weekend with the bank holiday.

With 16 real ales and four ciders on sale at one from, all from local breweries, organisers Ian Benbow, Daryl Preece, Dave Barton, Dave Jones, Dean Cox, Yvonne Benbow, Mike Wood, and Roy Mills are hoping the first Cookley Beer Festival will become an annual event and get the community to join together.

On Saturday, Sunday, and Monday May 23, 24, and 25 there will be free music from Karl's Bavarian Brass Band, Wild Clover, The Frenchman Street Jazz Band, and local band Indiependents.

There will also be a barbecue and cold snacks being sold at the club, as well as some fairground rides for children.

Tickets bought in advance are £10 for eight half-pint vouchers and a free commemorative glass.

Tickets bought during the event are £8 for six half-pint vouchers.

Tickets are available from Cookley Sports Club, in Lea Lane, by visiting or calling 01562 850055.
