PLANS are being put together for a natural haven in Kingsmead.

The parish council is working on the pond area at Bickerton Way and hopes to create a wildlife area.

A Kingsmead resident asked the council about its plans at the latest meeting.

"You recently had a number of large willow trees cut down and it's quite sparse now," he said.

"It's quite messy and not really in keeping with other areas of the estate.

"I've spoken to other people in Bickerton Way and we like the fact that it's a natural wildlife area and are quite keen to have it improved."

Councillors explained that the willows needed to be cut down as they were rotting and were unsafe.

Cllr Chris Reed said: "The basic idea is to get a mini digger in and clear out all the rubbish.

"Now there's no willows there they're not sucking the water up so there's two ponds now.

"There's some really nice dogwoods in there which we will redistribute and in October/November we will look at getting a couple of mature Scots pine to put in there."

He added: "It will be a really nice area once it's been cleaned and tidied up."
