A day of music and entertainment will take place in Bovingdon this month in support of charities Cancer Research UK and Peace Hospice Care.

Sunfest was organised for the first time last year by friends Jo Nickless and Dave Coleman, after they both lost a parent to cancer.

Ms Nickless lost her father, Gary, who was receiving care at Peace Hospice Care, in December 2012, and Mr Coleman lost his mother, Maureen, to the illness.

The friends said: "After the success of our first event last year we were very keen to do it all again this year, the response to and from last year's event was amazing and we are hoping to create the same this year and push past the amount raised for our chosen charities which are close to our hearts."

This year, as well as supporting Cancer Research UK and Peace Hospice Care, the two have decided to donate money to Brooke Cornwall, a nine-year-old girl from the area suffering with rare blood condition, Diamond Blackfan Anaemia (DBA).

"DBA is where the body fails to produce red blood cells and regular blood transfusions are needed. Brooke has just gone through a bone marrow transplant and is still fighting.

"Brooke and her families wish is that she can come home from hospital and we want to participate in making that happen.

"We will be donating £1 from each ticket entry to Brooke's charity and also making a separate donation from the event.

"We are still 100 per cent about raising money for Cancer Research and The Peace Hospice as these charities are so close to our hearts, but really want to help this brave young girl get her wish."

The event is taking place at The White Hart in Whelpley Hill and doors will open from midday on Sunday, May 24.

Families and friends will be able to enjoy bands and live acts, a beer festival, a BBQ and other activities such as face painting and a bouncy castle.

Anyone wanting to participate, contribute or donate to the event can contact sunfestcharity@outlook.com and a full line-up and attractions list will be published soon.
