RUNNERS are being warned to keep safe after rumours of a woman being followed along the Davenham bypass.

The incident, which is said to have happened on either the A556 or A553 at 7pm on April 22 and involved a woman runner being followed by a white van, has been shared on social media as a warning.

But police say they have no record of the incident.

The issue was raised at the latest meeting of Davenham Parish Council.

Cllr Andy Duff, chairman, said: "The woman was approached by a white van on the bypass so a warning was put out to say 'watch out, we have heard this report'."

PCSO Kevin McShane, who covers Moulton and Davenham as part of the Winsford Neighbourhood Policing Unit (NPU), had not heard about the incident but said it may have fallen under the Northwich NPU boundary.

A spokesman from Cheshire Constabulary said no incidents were showing on their system in the area.

PCSO McShane had heard reports of another incident affecting runners.

"Someone was passing through Davenham jogging and someone pelted eggs at him," he said.

"He saw another runner and the same had happened to him.

"He didn't manage to get the registration, which would have helped tremendously, and if it happens again we will try to get the registration number."

Julie Rarity, from Davenham Running Buddies, offered advice for any concerned runners.

She said: "I always advise my ladies to run with a safety alarm if alone but mostly to run with others in the group, which is big enough now to find someone of a similar pace, over 110 members"
