NEW interactive speed signs should soon be flashing up drivers’ speeds in Manchester Road, Lostock Gralam.

The signs have been installed alongside Lostock Gralam Community Centre as a result of tireless calls by parish councillor Peter Kelly for better speed signs.

Cllr Kelly lives between the centre and the Lostock Triangle, and has been campaigning for many years for improved measures to slow traffic on Manchester Road, which is restricted to 30 miles an hour.

He believes the larger, rectangular interactive signs will be more effective than a small, round one which was used on the road and has been removed with a view to being used in Lostock Green.

The new signs have been installed on either side of the road by Cheshire West and Chester Council, and although they are not yet working Cllr Kelly has been assured they will be connected very soon.

“Cheshire West suggested several sites for the signs, including near to my house, but I asked for them to go by the community centre, where the children cross the road,” said Cllr Kelly, a member of Lostock Gralam Parish Council.

“The new signs are better because they are bigger and stand out more.

“A lot of people think the speed limit on Manchester Road is 40, and we are trying to slow the traffic down because at the end of the day we don’t want an elderly person or a child being run over.

“I have been told by Cheshire West the new signs will be connected as soon as possible.”
