THE Basingstoke Under-14 Bison kept up their hopes of taking second spot in South Two as they won 5-1 at their nearest rivals Gosport and Solent last Sunday.

They can complete the job with two wins this weekend. They travel to Oxford on Saturday before hosting Gosport on Sunday (6.30pm).

The Bison opened the scoring on the south coast with a shorthanded marker from spirit of the game winner Elliott Lewis, assisted by Kody Sewell.

Gosport hit back to level three minutes later, but the young Herd took a 2-1 lead to the dressing room at the end of the first period, thanks to another shorthanded strike.

This was after defenceman Thomas Banner played the puck down the boards foinding Oliver Bower, who scored.

The visitors extended their lead on the powerplay as Emily Harris pounced on the loose puck to score on the back hand.

The visitors made it 4-1 as Alfie Taylor forced a turnover, from which Adam Castles gathered the puck before passing to Matthew West, who scored his first Bison goal.

The young Herd completed the scoring with the only goal of the final period from William Birch.

Travis Penny was the Bison’s man-of-the-match after an impressive performance.

The under-12 Bison wrap up their season on Sunday (4.40pm) when Slough are the visitors to the Basingstoke Arena.

The under-10 Bison completed their cross ice home fixtures against two teams from Guildford and the Solent Warriors.

The young Herd did well on the day against all three teams and this weekend they complete their season with road trips to Guildford and Gosport.
