Lammack Juniors U16s 2 Rossendale Utd U16s 0

LAMMACK Juniors clinched the double for the second time in three seasons after a hard-fought 2-0 win against Rossendale United to add the cup to the league title they had already won.

In a wonderful advert for junior football, both teams played in the right spirit with each side trying to get the ball down and play a bit of football.

Chances were few and far between in the first half with both defences on top - with Harry Boyle the stand-out player in the Lammack backline which would later earn him the man of the match award.

In the second half Lammack began to get on top and in the 65th minute made a breakthrough when Patrick McGrath skipped around the Rossendale left-back to fire in a cross which Sean Fennell excellently converted.

That lead was doubled 10 minutes later when Fennell raced in to the area after excellent work by Robert Starkie to keep the ball in play and was tripped by a Rossendale defender.

Elliot Welsh stepped up and smashed the ball past the keeper to make it 2-0 to put the game beyond a United side who more than played their part in the final.

The cup victory clinched another memorable double for a Lammack side, captained by James Tuley, who only lost two games all season in a very competitive division.

Lammack finished top with 28 points, two ahead of Athletico Knuzden.

“To be crowned double winners for the second time in three years, really shows the class and ability of the squad,” said manager Jason Boyle.

“They are a pleasure to coach and a great set of lads. East Lancs is a really high standard of football so to be double winners is a great achievement.

“Our only disappointment this season was to fall short in the Lancashire Cup going out in the quarter finals on penalties, against the eventual winners, but that’s football.”
