NEW houses will not have a negative impact on power in Moulton.

Moulton Parish Council has been looking into the impact of the planned 148-house development by Bovis off Beehive Lane in the light of a series of power cuts in the village.

Councillors initially raised their concerns at their February meeting after a number of power cuts throughout January.

They feared that the new houses would add too much strain to the existing system.

Scottish Power Energy Networks said at the time that it was a transient cable fault that affected around 200 people.

Speaking at the council's March meeting Phil Sanders, parish clerk, said he had been in touch with Scottish Power and they would have a say in Bovis' plans.

"We're part of the Weaver Valley supply and it all comes off one big unit and finds its way out," he said.

"Now they've got to look to see if there's a problem from that substation.

"Bovis have to put forward plans for approval to Scottish Power Energy Networks and they have to be approved by them.

"They will see if the supply is adequate."
