SHAUN Reid insists Warrington Town's players have a lot to play for this weekend as they approach two games in three days.

Town visit Padiham on Saturday before hosting Reid's old employers Prescot Cables on Monday, 3pm.

The Yellows have enjoyed an extended rest after their Evo-Stik Northern Premier League fixture with Darlington 1883 was postponed due to the weather on Saturday.

It leaves Reid's outfit with seven league games left to play and a Doodson Sport Cup final against either Ramsbottom or Farsley.

“We’ve had a good week’s training and we're now looking forward to Saturday and Monday,” said Reid.

“In a roundabout way it’s been a blessing in disguise.

“We had a couple of niggly injuries. Ged Kinsella had a back problem and (Stephen) Tamesy had a groin strain. (Warren) Beattie’s injury has cleared up, too.

“I've challenged my players to win the rest of their league games. We’ve got a cup final in the middle of it all and they’re playing for places.

"Winning the trophy would be no mean feat, so we’ve still got a lot to play for this season.

“The players who are in and out of the team are playing for their spots next season as well."

And Reid says his players should have no qualms about playing twice in 72 hours.

“We went to Padiham last year and the weather was horrendous,” added Reid. “But got a good victory.

“I fully expect my side to get six points from these two games, the players should expect that as well.

“We’ll take Saturday first, go there and get set up right, then it’s a quick recovery with 72 hours until you’re playing again.

“It’s tough on them, but they are playing football and they should love it.”
