FIRST dates, more often than not, involve dinner for two and a visit to the pictures. Not, however, if your name is Lembit Opik.

Mr Opik, the flamboyant Liberal Democrat MP, is dating one-half of the Romanian singing duo Cheeky Girls after confirming he and weather presenter Sian Lloyd had split up.

Sceptics who saw the relationship as a flash in the pan may have been surprised to learn that the couple's first date had been a a trip to the Science Museum in west London.

Cheeky Girl Magrit said about her twin: "Gabriela is impressed that she can talk to him about so many different things. She is happy but I can't say any more."

Mr Opik is a science buff - he's an expert in near-earth objects such as asteroids or comets - so it is no surprise the first date should be to a cerebral place like the Science Museum.

Thus inspired, we asked you: what has been the most memorable date you have ever been on?

Was it to a museum or an exotic location - or was it a trip to Paris? Or was it just a meal for two followed by a trip to the cinema? The cinema tops your choice as the most memorable place for a date... LUKE MARTIN, 18, sales, Cambuslang: If I am going out on a date I usually head to the cinema. Once, on a first date, I once spilled a hot chocolate all over the girl I was with - so it's memorable for the wrong reason! SARAH CARROLL, 54, bakery assistant, Hamilton: The most memorable date I've been on was when I went to New York with my husband Robert. It was the first time we had been - we had a brilliant time. STEWART GRAHAM, 72, retired, City Centre: About 50 years ago I went to an Italian restaurant with my wife. It was called Canasta and was in Buchanan Street. There weren't many in Glasgow at the time and it was a lovely place. NATALIE HANNIGAN, 19, student, Giffnock: I went to the cinema with my boyfriend Michael, which was quite a memorable date. After the cinema we went out for a drink and it was a good night. LUCIAN LONGO, 24, accountancy, South Side: My first date with my current boyfriend was special. We were just friends, then we went to the cinema and ended up going out after it. We had good fun and it was an amazing night. WILLIAM HADDEN, 20, student, City Centre: When I went to the Garage on Sauchiehall Street on Hallowe'en. That was a great place for a date. DANIELA McPHAIL, 18, sales. Clydebank The most special date I have been on was when I went to the cinema, then for a meal after it. There have been no other dates that really stand out. DAVID LONG, 20, Cambuslang: The most memorable date I have been on was to the zoo with my girlfriend. We went a couple of months ago and it was a good day out.
