MOVES are afoot on the South Seas tour which could lead to the first

Tongan appearing in Scottish league rugby next season. Scots team doctor

Jimmy Hay is extending a welcome on behalf of friends at Ayr RFC to

Ipolito Fenukitau who starred at open-side flanker in Saturday's 23-5

Test defeat by Scotland.

Ipolito, a 6ft 3in speed merchant, had originally approached Scots

tour stand-off Ally Donaldson, from Currie, and inquired about the

possibility of playing in Scotland.

Donaldson said: ''He appears to be looking for somewhere different to

play from the usual options of New Zealand or Australia.

''It's unfortunate he happens to be a wing forward because Currie are

well covered in that position.''

That was when Hay stepped in, and not even the fact that Ipolito works

on the family plantation growing yams and bananas is considered

off-putting.

Hay, who spent some time trying to contact Ipolito -- capped twice and

described by local officials as the most exciting prospect from the

South Seas since current All Black flanker Michael Jones -- before the

Scots party moved from Tonga to Western Samoa, said: ''Some farmers

connected with the Ayr club might be in a position to help out with a

job.''
