GLASGOW saw the end of an era yesterday with the opening of Partick

police office, built at a cost of more than #2m. It replaces the old

station, known as the Marine, which has operated for 140 years in

Anderston Street. The office was designed as a two-storey adminstration

block, with a single-storey block to the rear housing modern cell

accommodation. Councillor Patrick Docherty, vice-chairman of Strathclyde

Regional Council's police and fire committee, performed the opening

ceremony, attended by Chief Constable Leslie Sharp and other

dignitaries.
