LENNOX Lewis was yesterday tipped to go on to win the heavyweight

world title -- by former holder Larry Holmes. Holmes, who held versions

of the world crown with distinction for six years in the 70s and 80s,

believes Lewis will take the prized title back to Britain in the spring.

He initially tipped Razor Ruddock to come out on top in the four-way

tussle also involving Lewis, Evander Holyfield, and Riddick Bowe. But

Lewis's two-round destruction of Ruddock at Earl's Court two weeks ago

puts the former Olympic champion on top of the distinguished pile in

Holmes' valued opinion.

THE WBC yesterday named super-lightweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez

of Mexico boxer of the year at the end of its annual convention in

Cancun, Mexico. Chavez was the runaway winner of the award, garnering 23

votes against four for his closest rival, super-featherweight champion

Azumah Nelson of Ghana.
