TABLE MARKET research by TSB suggests that the Scots have

insufficient life insurance to provide the wherewithal for their

families to make ends meet in the event of their death.

TSB estimates that 57% of adults in central Scotland are

under-insured, though only 17% of respondents considered they were. The

average amount of cover was estimated at #47,000, ''woefully inadequate

to produce the average income that respondents say their families would

need if they died'', said TSB.

The average income thought necessary by respondents was #11,786 and

TSB suggests a figure 10 times this would be needed as a capital sum on

death, leaving an average under-insurance of #71,000.

The survey showed widespread ignorance of the extent of state

benefits, with 38% of respondents claiming the state would provide in

the event of their death.
