* ERNST Happel, one of the most successful coaches in modern times,

has died of cancer with his last ambition still unfulfilled. The

66-year-old had made it his final goal to take Austria to the World Cup

finals in 1994.

In a brilliant career, in which he coached Feyenoord, Seville, FC

Bruges, Standard Liege, SV Hamburg, and FC Tirol, he won two Champions'

Cups and 17 different league titles. He also took Holland to the World

Cup final in 1978, losing to Argentina.
