CAR LTON Palmer has been recalled by England to start today's World

Cup qualifier against Turkey at Wembley.

The Sheffield Wednesday midfielder, England's outstanding performer in

the European Championship finals in Sweden last summer, steps in for the

injured David Batty as minder and provider for Paul Gascoigne.

* ASTON Villa defender Paul McGrath and midfielder Steve Staunton

return after injury for the Republic of Ireland against Spain in the

Group 3 qualifier in Seville tonight.

The Irish are unhappy about reports of a Spanish plan to defy FIFA's

all-seated legislation again and exceed the 35,000 crowd limit for the

stadium. The Spaniards put cushions on concrete terracing for the game

against Albania last April but were warned it must not happen again.
