AS A shareholder in Scottish Radio Holdings, I welcome greatly that internationally-respected Emap plc has purchased a key stake in SRH. As a result of this significant new inward investment into Scottish business, I hope an experienced executive from Emap can be appointed immediately to strengthen the board of SRH. Palpably, it is important for a dynamic Scotland that the SRH stable of assets is managed by directors who are much more independent than at present and that inward-looking practices, such as the carrying on the payroll of unimpressive ''Findlay junior'', are ended.

Charles Villiers,

Milton House, Milton, Dumbarton.

IN your article (January 17) on the sale of SMG's shareholding of SRH to Emap you suggested that a wholesale takeover would result in there no longer being a wholly Scottish-based commercial radio operator. As chief executive of the recently formed Kingdom Group, I am bound to disagree. Our group of three stations consists of Kingdom FM in Fife, Clan FM in Lanarkshire and River FM serving West Lothian. Together, our stations provide highly localised radio services to a significant section of the Scottish population. Our group has grown rapidly and we are actively seeking expansion opportunities, both through acquisitions of existing services alongside the pursuing of new radio licence opportunities such as the prospective Edinburgh city licence.

While we have attracted investment from a variety of sources (both from within Scotland and without),

decision-making within the group is done entirely within Scotland, both at local station and group board level.

Ian Sewell,

chief executive, The Kingdom Group, Radio House, Markinch, Fife.
