The Lake House

IN 1994's Speed, Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves had to race against time in an out-of-control bus. Reunited for this gentle romance, they've got temporal troubles all over again: this time, they're correspondents who fall in love by letter only to discover that they exist two years apart. Good luck to them - although two years is unambitious time-travelling, if you ask me. Keanu got a lot further back when he was in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.

Just My Luck

CAN Lindsay Lohan cut it as a grown-up movie star? Well, not if she keeps making showcase movies for British teen pop bands. She's certainly dressed like an adult here - that's no little girl's figure she's flashing - but she's also sharing the screen with the band McFly, who are trying to get noticed across the pond. Also on board is the wonderful Bill Nighy, funny-faced Office star Mackenzie Crook and scary Scandinavian Stellan Skarsgard. Cheekbones and pouting by Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom.

Superman Returns

BRAVE people bring you the new-fangled Superman. Brave because, as everyone knows, the entire franchise is cursed, and will be their destruction. It has already taken 10 years to come to fruition, and rattled through a laundry list of "attached" directors and stars. Actors who nearly donned the tights include Paul Walker, Ashton Kutcher and Brendan Fraser. The final choice is Brendan Routh.

DISPARATE events and people whose stories mesh due to pivotal car accidents? Hmm. Amores Perros, anyone? Crash? The gimmick of Greg Marcks's comic thriller has been done to death in the time it's been hanging around waiting for a UK release (it was finished in 2003). Still, forgive the familiarity and it's an entertaining thing, with fun performances from Hilary Swank, pictured, Patrick Swayze and Ben Foster.
