The castle where Mary Queen of Scots spent her first night of freedom after escaping from the noblemen who deposed her is up for sale. Offers over #100,000 are being sought for Niddry Castle, where Mary was sheltered by Lord Seton in 1568.

Near Winchburgh in West Lothian, Niddry was the Seton family home from 1460 to 1676. Queen Mary was secreted there before her flight south over the Solway Firth on a mission to ask for the protection of Queen Elizabeth.
