BUSINESS breakfasts are to continue in Wincham despite a disappointing turnout for the first event.

Only four businesses attended the networking event at Witton Albion Football Club which was organised by Wincham Parish Council.

The breakfast was the idea of parish councillor Peter O’Halloran, who attended the event with council vice-chairman Kenton Barker.

The event took place between 8am and 9.30am, was free to attend, and featured tea and coffee and a breakfast buffet of bacon and egg baps from the Crusty Cob Cafe.

“For the people who turned up it went very well,” said Cllr O’Halloran, who sent out between 50 and 60 invitations to businesses.

“They said it was worthwhile, although the turnout was disappointing.”

Cllr Barker said those businesses who attended were very supportive of the idea, and council chairman Annie Makepeace said it would take time for the idea to take hold.

Cllr Makepeace said: “Nineteen businesses responded to the invitations, saying they would be attending, bringing between two and three people.

“As a result the plan was to cater for 50 people, although many people could not make it.

"We are going to continue with the business breakfasts, as those people who attended were very enthusiastic about the idea, and we really appreciate the businesses in Wincham and what they do for the village.”

The event was aimed at providing the opportunity for businesses to raise any issues or concerns with parish councillors, and a chance for them to meet up.

Invitations went out to firms on the New Cheshire Business Park and Wincham Industrial Estate, as well as people who run businesses from home.

Catering for the event cost £115, and a further business breakfast is being planned for Witton Albion on May 14 or 15.
