THE Roberts Bakery Band hit all the right notes to triumph at a regional brass band contest.

The band, which is sponsored by Northwich family bakers Roberts Bakery, won the North West Area First Section brass band contest at Blackpool Winter Gardens on March 1.

Led by musical director Simon Stonehouse, the band’s rendition of Philip Sparke’s The London Overture saw it take top spot in a competition attended by 13 bands from across the region.

Winning means the band is now back in the Championship section of brass band competition, and will compete in the national finals at Cheltenham Racecourse in September.

Simon Stonehouse said: “The band was lifted by the occasion and delivered a truly convincing account. Every one of them was technically and musically up to the challenge.

“During the past 18 months the band has progressed musically in all aspects, maintaining its trademark ‘big’ sound. We have a full settled and happy band and are looking forward to returning to the Championship section. The bakery is delighted with the progress of the band on the concert stage and its concert successes.”

Recent accolades for the band include being named the most entertaining band of 2014 by Ring O’ Bells Marple Concert Series and an invitation to perform at the European Blasmusikfestival in Germany.

The band is due to perform at the Wilmslow ‘Party in the Park’ and The Knutsford Promenades this summer.
