CHRIS Hill is due to lead Warrington Wolves out against St Helens tonight, Thursday, but Tony Smith says his vice captain is one of many leaders in the squad.

The prop got his first taste of Wolves captaincy against Leeds Rhinos when Joel Monaghan was ruled out with injury.

Hill described the moment as ‘one of the proudest’ of his life.

But Wolves’ head of coaching and rugby insists Hill is always a leader.

“He was another really solid and strong performer last week,” said Smith. “He handled the captaincy, he just gets out there and does what he does best.

“He’s well supported with some fantastic players around him and good leaders around him as well.

“It isn’t a huge role change for Hilly, it’s get out there and do what you always do and show us which way to go forward and he does that each and every week.”

And Smith says any number of players could have taken charge during Hill’s short stints back on the sidelines on Friday.

“If the referee needed to speak to anyone it would have been Stefan (Ratchford),” added Smith.

“But we’ve got any number of people. Bennie Westwood, Micky Higham when he’s on the field have great experience of leadership. (Chris) Bridgey’s experienced and can step up.”

Wolves’ 19-man squad to face St Helens: Roy Asotasi, Ryan Atkins, Chris Bridge, Daryl Clark, Ben Currie, Ben Evans, Ben Harrison, Micky Higham, Chris Hill, George King, James Laithwaite, Gareth O’Brien, Kevin Penny, Joe Philbin, Stefan Ratchford, Matty Russell, Ashton Sims, Ben Westwood, Gary Wheeler.
