PLANS for a new school crossing patrol in Moulton have come to nothing.

Moulton Parish Council has investigated whether it can run a new lollipop crossing with Moulton School but said it is 'pushing against a brick wall' with Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC).

Residents had asked the council for help as they feared for the safety of children at the busy crossroads of Main Road, School Lane and Whitlow Lane.

In the past the village has been told by CWAC that there are not enough pupils at the school to qualify for a lollypop crossing.

Speaking to parish councillors at the latest meeting Phil Sanders, parish clerk, said: "In terms of responsibility for the service, it's recommended that the school crossing patrol service remains with the local authority.

"Overall responsibility and day-to-day responsibility should be under one department rather than shared between different ones.

"Reading between the lines it says 'we want to control it and we're not really prepared to let anyone else run it'.

"The numbers don't stack up for it, it's been looked at two or three times.

"Do you want me to take it forward against that background because we're pushing against a brick wall."

Cllr Jim Clarke said: "From a practical perspective it would be very difficult to do it on our own."

Cllr Allan Aston, parish council chairman, said: "I don't think we can go any further with it at this point."
