A school boy from Northwich has been showing the bigger boys how its done when he starred as a mini James May in a Top Gear-themed launch.

Mackenzie Batey-Gray, 11, was one of four children who starred in the special test drive event for the Legoland Windsor Resort's reopening of the Lego City Driving School.

The group have made the national headlines in a comparison with the real and controversial Top Gear team of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May and The Stig.

His mum Wendy said: "A lot of the press were laughing because they were saying the kids can get together to play these parts with no fighting going on then there's Jeremy Clarkson and all this bother."

Clarkson has been suspended from Top Gear following a fracas with a producer. The mini lookalike presenters, who had an average height of 4ft 5in, jostled for pole position on a timed lap challenge in a new test lane at the resort, competing in miniature Fiat cars.

Little Stig narrowly beat Little Hammond by five seconds, with Little Clarkson in third and Little “Captain Slow” May, Northwich's Mackenzie, trailing in last.

Wendy said the part was perfect for Mackenzie, who also featured in Halford's Christmas advert. "He's obsessed with Top Gear," she said.

"Before he got this part he literally watched it back-to-back but to prepare he had it on all the time and was practicing how James May speaks and how James May walks.

"The other three children that were there were from Sylvia Young in London so it was nice that we were doing it for the north."

Mackenzie is a pupil at The County High School Leftwich and attends Stagecoach Theatre Arts in his spare time.
