KNITTERS across Cheshire have created more than 2,500 tiny woolly hats to help older people stay warm and well in the winter

The hats can be found adorning Innocent smoothie bottles in supermarkets nationwide and Innocent donates 25p from each sale to Age UK's Spread the Warmth campaign.

This helps to fund national and local winter projects.

The Big Knit campaign is in its 11th year and has seen knitters across the UK create a total of 800,000 hats.

Designs include fruit, animals, people or traditional bobble hats, which can be found on innocent smoothie bottles in big supermarkets and little shops up and down the country now.

Georgina Alexander-Pulham, from Age UK Cheshire, said: “The Big Knit couldn’t happen without the support of local knitters and we’re extremely grateful to everyone who got involved and knitted hats.

"The funds raised will go a long way towards supporting local winter projects such as our Winter Warmth Campaign, which is vital in helping older people through this difficult time of year.”
