TONY Smith has described the World Club Series as a ‘lightbulb moment’ for Anthony England.

The prop impressed for Wolves from the bench against St George Illawarra Dragons, having only joined from Championship outfit Featherstone Rovers last season.

But elbow ligament damage cut England’s display short on Friday.

“He got a bit of a taste for it the other day,” said Smith. “It gave him one of those lightbulb moments that switched on for him. So hopefully he can recover and get back as soon as possible.

“He looked good, he looked the business. He made a big difference when he came on, he had an impact.

“That’s what he’s here to do, he’s a big man, and it looked like all that hard work in pre-season was going to come to fruition for him.

“It’s a setback for him but he’ll come back strong and ready to go.”

Smith ranked the World Club Series as an overall success and is confident the weekend will give the concept a platform to grow.

“If we’re going to market our game worldwide it’s a way of grabbing attention,” he added.

“Having teams from the northern and southern hemispheres, that’s a great way to market our sport and almost like a Champions League-type programme.

“It could be taken to other places such as Asia, America or Dubai and marketed on the world stage.”
