RESIDENTS opposed to HS2 are being invited to attend a council meeting on Thursday to support the presentation of a petition.

Campaign group Mid Cheshire Against HS2 has collected almost 1,700 names for a petition against the high speed rail link.

The petition is due to be presented to Cheshire West and Chester Council at its meeting at the council chamber, Wyvern House, The Drumber, Winsford.

The meeting starts at 6.30pm, and the petition will be presented by Cheshire West councillor Mark Stocks, who represents the Shakerley ward.

“We are asking people to consider coming to the meeting to show their support on behalf of Cheshire residents, Mid Cheshire Against HS2 and Cllr Stocks in this bid to get the council to debate HS2 at a full council meeting and to establish a CWAC HS2 working group that will call for evidence,” said campaign group member Ros Todhunter.

“Please be there well before 6pm so we can get seats in the public gallery.”
