SIX students from Sir John Deane’s College are celebrating after being selected to study at Oxford and Cambridge Universities.

Leah McCusker, James Fallon, Rebecca Annells, Tom Ward, Jennifer Shelley and Sarah Edwards have been offered places at the universities, and are hoping to study the following courses.

Leah McCusker from Congleton – physics at New College, Oxford.

James Fallon from Winsford – physics at St Catherine’s, Oxford.

Rebecca Annells from Crowton - biomedical science, Exeter College, Oxford.

Tom Ward from Northwich - history and politics at Pembroke College, Oxford.

Jennifer Shelley from Northwich – law at Girton College, Cambridge.

Sarah Edwards from Crewe completed A-levels at Sir John Deane’s last year, and is on a gap year. She is hoping to study English literature at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge.

Students at Sir John Deane’s College undergo an intensive process to prepare them for university, with support from the college’s careers department.

Students applying to Oxbridge follow a carefully-managed programme of support, which includes guidance and interview training in preparation for their application.

Kerry Kirkwood, college principal, said: “I would like to add my congratulations to the students on behalf of the college and I’m delighted that we have had another successful year for our Oxbridge applicants.

“They will be great ambassadors for our college and have a promising future ahead of them.”
